The Dibrugarh Police and Government Railway Police (GRP) in a joint operation have seized three oil tankers at the Dibruragh Railway Station in Dibrugarh’s Banipur for allegedly being involved in the theft of diesel from Digboi.
The police on Tuesday also detained the drivers of the tankers for selling the stolen diesel midway while transporting it from Digboi.
The accused have been identified as K. Rabi Rao, Arbind Rai and Ravi Chetri.
The team also recovered Rs. 53,800 in cash from their possession.
The Police and GRPF have lodged a case against the three accused.
Police sources said that an oil racket involved in the illegal selling of diesel meant to be delivered to the railways is operating in the Dibrugarh district.
Although the capacity of each tanker is 12000 litres, it was found to be short by a huge quantity of diesel while checking.
As per information, five tankers were supposed to reach the station in Banipur on Wednesday.
However, two of the tankers are to arrive at the station.
