In a road mishap that took place on Wednesday morning in between Solmari and Bhalukdubi, about 2 km from Goalpara town in Lower Assam, two passengers died on the spot and six others received serious injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Debajit Sarkar (32 years), the tempo driver and Dharanidhar Rabha (58 years), a local resident.

Among the other six persons, who have sustained grave injuries are Bedila Momin, Anil Sangma, Bhagyashar Rabha and Fazal Hoque. Two persons couldn’t be identified till the filing of this report.

According to information received from police sources, a Dhubri-bound passenger bus (No AS 17-9313), which began its journey at 11:30 am from Hasilapara of Goalpara town, collided head-on with a tempo loaded with passengers.

The collision was so devastating that the front side of the tempo was totally crashed resulting in the death of its driver and a front seat passenger.

Police arrived at the scene immediately after the incident and admitted all of the injured passengers to the nearest hospital. The conditions of the injured are said to be critical.

It may be mentioned that cracks appeared in an RCC bridge over river Krishnai near the Krishnai town on NH-37 in May last.

Since then the vehicles plying through the NH-37 via Krishnai are temporarily plying through Goalpara town connecting the NH-37 again at Dudhnoi.

This has suddenly increased the vehicular traffic on the road from Goalpara town to Dudhnoi via Mornoi Sainik School. This has also been instrumental in the rise of road mishaps in this route.

The road mishap on Wednesday was a result of this increasing burden on this narrow road. People have demanded immediate opening of the bridge at Krishnai.
