A total of 18 child labourers were rescued in Darrang district on Wednesday during a drive conducted by the District Level Task Force in association with Bachpan Bachao Andolan and Childline.

Child rescue drive was carried out at different business establishments including garage, tyre repair workshop, hotel, tea stall and hardware shop located in the Kharupetia area.

The drive was carried out under the supervision of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of Darrang jointly with Bachpon Bachao Andolan, a noted non-government child rights organization and Childline India.

Later, the rescued children were produced before the District Child Welfare Committee.

According to sources at DCPU Darrang, steps will be taken against the owners of the said business establishments under the provision of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation ) Act 1986.
