At least 15 people were injured, one of them seriously when a passenger bus travelling from Bilasipara in Dhubri district, skidded off the road and plunged into a pond in Kokrajhar district on Sunday.

The incident took place at Baruapara, 7 km from Kokrajhar town under Kokrajhar Police Station in the district.

According to sources, a bus (AS 01-DD-7076) along with 40 passengers skidded off the road due to technical snag in the steering.

Fifteen people were stated to be injured in the mishap. One of the seriously injured identified as Subur Ali is being treated at the Kokrajhar Rup Nath Brahma Civil Hospital.

Gias Ahmed, a traffic police officer, said that they received calls from locals from Baruapara that about the falling down of a in a pond near Baruapara market. “As soon as we received the information, we rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers and sent the seriously injured passengers to the Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital for treatment,” said Ahmed.

Ahmed also informed, “The under ASTC bus fell in the pond due to technical snag in the steering.”

He also said the driver and the conductor of the bus ran away from the spot and the bus was brought to Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station in Kokrajhar.

The police offalso hoping that ASTC bus owner, driver and conductor will come to police tomorrow.
