At least 13 students were hospitalised after suspected food poisoning in Tinsukia, Assam

DIGBOI: At least 13 students were hospitalised after suspected food poisoning in Tinsukia, Assam on Tuesday.

According to the details available, they were all Jatiya Vidyalaya at Mamorani village under Digboi police station in Tinsuka district.

They were all hostellers.

Of 47 students staying in the hostel, 13 were admitted to Tinsukia Medical College.

According to doctors the condition of the students was stable till this afternoon.

The ailing students who started showing symptoms of food poisoning were rushed for better medical treatment.

According to officials, the students in the hostel had a morning meal comprising bamboo shoots and fish.

Following breakfast, almost all of them started showing symptoms of vomiting, dizziness and stomach ache.

However, 13 of them turned out to have serious symptoms.

They were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment while others were being taken care of at the hostel.

Those in stable condition were being released by the hospital in a phased manner, said officials.

The hospital authority apprised the competent education department about the incident in writing.

Meanwhile, a team of officials comprising food inspectors visited the site and collected food sample for needful formalities and examination.

The cause of the food poisoning was yet to be ascertained till filling the report.
