Guwahati: At least 12 persons identified to be Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended in South Salmara, Assam on Tuesday night.
They were nabbed in the Hatsingimari area on Tuesday while they were attempting to return to Bangladesh after working in various parts of India.

The group had illegally entered Indian territory through the Dawki region of Meghalaya without valid documents.

The police team conducted a raid in the Fulerchar area, based on a tip-off. The arrested individuals, aged between 18 and 38, were identified as residents of different districts in Bangladesh, including Dhaka, Gaibandha, Naogaon, and Mymensingh.

It was further alleged that of them, nine were found carrying forged Aadhaar cards.

They had worked as labourers in Tamil Nadu before attempting to return home, reports stated.
The Border Security Force and South Salmara-Mankachar district police deported the individuals to Bangladesh through the international border, following proper procedures, reports stated.
