Guwahati: Man-elephant conflict has claimed another life in the state with the latest death being reported from a village near the Raimona National Park in Kokrajhar, Assam.

According to reports, an infant, only 11 months old was killed during an “elephant invasion” to the village.

The deceased child was identified as Mahadev Basumatary.

The elephants came to the village in search of food and destroyed several houses during their search, a local said.

During this, the elephants broke the house of Ringkhong Basumatary and as a result, also attacked the family during which the child was killed.

Locals said that as they tried to chase the elephants away, they turned violent and attacked.

Forest officials were later informed and the herd was chased back to the forest.

Further legal proceedings are being carried out.
