Ten Members of the Autonomous Council (MACs) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) including the Chairman, Longki Timung, have been allotted official vehicles.
Innova cars were handed over to the elected KAAC representatives by the KAAC Transport Department during a ceremony held at KAAC Secretariat here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Member (CEM), KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang, who handed over the cars, said, “Team Karbi Anglong comprising the CEM, EMs, MACs and officials of KAAC will visit remote areas of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts to have first-hand knowledge about the problems of the people.”
“It was first planned in September but due to demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the programme was postponed. This October, the Team Karbi will be visiting those places. The tour will start from Mahamaya MAC constituency. Solar lights will be provided to the villages where electricity is yet to reach. Blankets and mosquito nets will also be distributed among the villagers,” added Ronghang.
The CEM appreciated the officials and staff members of KAAC for keeping the Secretariat neat and clean while the MACs appreciated the steps taken at the initiative of the CEM.
Along with Chairman Timung, the 10 MACs, who got their allotted official cars are Ramsing Timung, Dorsing Ronghang, Lunsing Teron, Mukut Mahanta, Pobitra Rongpi, Probhat Chandra Taro, Mangalsing Timung, Rina Terangpi, Horensing Bey and Pawan Kr Rai.
The Transport Department, KAAC, purchased 12 Innova cars at a total cost of Rs 2.24 crore under the Chief Minister’s Special Package 2018-19. There are two models, viz., six Innova Crysta 2.4 VX cars and six Innova Crysta 2.4 GX. Each Innova 2.4 VX each car cost Rs 20,29,910 and each Innova 2.4 GX car cost Rs 17,11,962.
