Asom Satra Mahasabha former president Bhadra Krishna Goswami passes away

Bhadra Krishna Goswami, chief adviser and former president of Asom Satra Mahasabha, passed away on Wednesday morning in a city hospital due to some old age ailments.  He was 86.

Family sources said Goswami was undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hopsitals in Guwahati where he breathed his last around 6 am.

Born at Charing Jakai Satra in upper Assam’s Sivasagar district in 1933, he became a member of the Satra Sangha in 1964.

Goswami, who worked at Indian Oil Corporation’s Assam Oil Division, became Satradhikar of Jakai Satra after his retirement from  job.

Goswami took charges as the president of the Asom Satra Mahasabha in 2002 and later became its chief adviser.

He was cremated with full state honour at the Nabagraha crematorium here. Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, CM’s press adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, Kamrup (M) DC Birendra Mittal and Guwahati police Commissioner Hiren Nath were present at the funeral.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary , Asom Sahitya Sabha and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) have mourned the demise of Goswami.

Chief Minister Sonowal in a condolence message said, “Goswami will always be remembered for his sincere effort to socialize the Srimanta Sankardeva’s philospphy.”

Expressing deep condolence at the demise of Goswami, Industries and Commerce Minister Patowary said, “As an exponent of the rich Satriya heritage, Goswami worked relentlessly for Satriya culture, literature and values and strengthened the Mahasabha to carry on its enlightened legacy.”

“Goswami’s immense contribution to the socio-cultural life of the state will be ever remembered by posterity,” added the Minister.
