The ashes of former three-time Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi were immersed into river Brahmaputra at the historical Netai Dhubuni Ghat in Dhubri by his son, Gaurav Gogoi.

The statewide programme to immerse the ashes of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi in the rivers of every district of the state ended on Sunday.

On the last day of the statewide programme, the former chief minister’s son, Kaliabor MP, Gaurav Gogoi performed the rituals at Netai Dhubuni Ghat, Dhubri in the presence of a large gathering including Congress MLAs Rakibul Hussain and Wazed Ali Choudhury.

Earlier, soon after the ashes arrived in Dhubri, a Shradhanjali Sabha was organised at Dhubri Children’s Park and the peoples in large number paid rich tributes to their beloved leader and three-time chief minister of Assam.

On this occasion, the Dhubri District Congress Committee (DCC) also arranged an all-party meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, parliamentarian Gaurav Gogai urged the members of Congress and the common peoples to follow the footsteps of Tarun Gogai, who dedicated his whole life for the well-being of the state’s people.

He further urged the people and party members to come together and do the best in a bid to fulfil the dreams of the departed soul.

The local leaders from other political parties also paid floral tributes to the former Assam chief minister.
