The Brahmaputra Board is all set to host a rafting expedition in Siang River named Brahmaputra Amantran Abhiyan from December 16-22.

Chairing a coordination meeting in this regard at her office in Pasighat on Friday, East Siang deputy commissioner Kinny Singh said Union ministers for Power Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Youth Affairs Kiren Rijiju would join the event.

Terming the event as a great opportunity for East Siang, she urged the government officers of the district to extend all possible help in making it a success.

Deputy CE of Brahmaputra Board, Gammo Kamaki said Siang’s flowing nature and land erosion problem in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh were similar.

Through this river rafting, awareness on soil test and river bank protection measures, etc., would be disseminated amongst the people living along the riverbeds, he said.

The expedition will start on December 16 from Gelling in Upper Siang district and conclude at Dhubri in Assam on January 13. The Siang meets two other rivers from Arunachal Pradesh to form the Brahmaputra in Assam.

SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh, College Of Horticulture and Forestry dean B N Hazarika, ADC T Borang, tourism officer T Tatak, medical officer Kaling Dai, divisional forest officer T Mize, DDMO G Tsumo and the principals of various schools and colleges and others attended the meeting.
