Renowned artist Dhruba Deka passed away in a city hospital on Wednesday.

He was 67.Deka, who was diagnosed with dengue during a trip to Majuli in connection with an art exhibition on November 27, suffered a massive heart attack a couple of days ago. Following this, he was admitted to a city hospital.

Born in Guwahati in 1950, Deka graduated from Bihpuria College. His father Abhay Deka was a sports organiser and mother Sabitri Deka a Gandhian.

A founder member of the Gauhati Artists’ Guild, he served it in various capacities since 1976. He excelled in water colour and cover page design. He also set up an art centre at his home.

He is survived by his wife Nila Krishna Deka, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives. His last rites were performed at Navagraha. His body was brought to the Guild office for enabling its members to pay their respects to the departed artist.
