The Delhi police on Tuesday filed charge-sheet against 12 people including Devangana Kalita from Assam at the Karkarduma court in New Delhi.

They were arrested for their alleged involvement in violent protest in connection with the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) movement.

As per sources, name of Umar Khalid was also mentioned in the Delhi police chargesheet.

“The chargesheet said that all the accused were involved in the Jafrabad violence,” sources said.

The police in its chargesheet accused Devangana as one of the conspirator in the Jafrabad violence.

“The police came to the conclusion after going through the Whatsapp chat over the violence,” sources claimed.

Devangana was granted bail by Tees Hazari court in another case.

Devangana, an M Phil student at JNU along with Natasha Narwal was arrested by the Delhi police on June 24.

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also written to home minister Amit Shah seeking release of the two students.

In a letter to Shah, Gogoi has said that Indian Constitution has given right to everybody to express or to agitate against the decision of the Government and both of them did nothing except exercising their fundamental right.
