The family of Abdul Alim, who was killed in the anti- Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) movement last year, still awaits justice.
The 23-year-old Abdul who hailed from Baghmara in Bajali sub-division in Assam’s Barpeta district, had died when the police fired at protestors agitating against the controversial CAA in Lalunggaon in Guwahati on December 12.

His death has pushed the family into a future of uncertainty as he was the sole earning member.
Abdul’s mother Abida Khatun said, ‘My son grew up amidst acute financial crisis and when he got employed in Guwahati, he hoped of getting his sister married.”
“We want justice for our son”, she said.

His father, Lal Mamud Khatun said, “After passing the HS examination, our son had gone to Chennai to work in a company and then to Guwahati to earn a livelihood for the family. He was the only earning member.”
“When the state government has not ordered an inquiry into the killing of my son, how will we get justice?” questioned the distressed father.
“We want justice and the authorities concerned should conduct an inquiry into his death without delay,” he said.
Five people succumbed to bullet injuries after the police had opened fire on protesters agitating against CAA.
The state government imposed Section 144 in the state on December 11after the parliament had passed the controversial bill.
The victims included 17-year-old Sam Stafford and 19-year-old Dipanjal Das, who have been declared the “first martyrs” of the anti-CAA movement in the state.
Stafford was a musician, who would have taken his school leaving exams this year.
He was returning to his home in Guwahati’s Hatigaon after participating in a protest demonstration at the Latasil Field when a bullet hit his face and he died on the spot.
Das was a cook at a canteen at the District Sainik Welfare Boardand and was on his way back home when a bullet hit his abdomen during firing in Lachit Nagar.
He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
Abdul Amin (23) and Ishwar Nayak (25) also succumbed to injuries during the protests.
While Amin received a bullet injury in his abdomen, Nayak was hit on his waist.
Another victim, Azizul Hoque (45) was also killed during the protest.
