Bodo are a distinct race with their unique language, culture, tradition, the Bodos living in West Bengal, Nepal are called Mech, in Chittangong Hill Tract (CHT) of Bangladesh as Tripuri. This was observed by Bodoland Territorial Council Executive Member Lmshrao Daimari. He was delivering the inaugural speech at the open session of 17th annual convention of Behergami Primary Committee of Bodo Sahitya Sabha(BSS) in Barigaon LP school premises near Bhergaon in Udalguri on Sunday.
He reiterated the history and need for the formation of Bodo Sahitya Sabha(BSS). He lauded the efforts of the organization which has placed Bodo literature at the world platform. “Though the literature is in nascent phase the language has attained a position of pride with the opening of the Post-Graduate Courses in Bodo language and literature in Gauhati University and Bodoland University,Kokrajhar.” he added.
He also said “The Meches or Bodos had even participated in the great battle of Kurukshetra and diaplayed their valour but to the present Bodos are unaware of their history which can be found in the history books of state”
Vice-President of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Kamala Kanta Musahari was the Chief Guest of the occasion, which was presided over by Santosh Kr Basumatari.
Speaking on the occasion he said that the Bodo Sahitya Sabha’s role as the vanguard of Bodo literature with a mission of preserving Bodo language and culture has been successful. He further stated that the State Government has initiated steps to set up a special directorate for Bodo medium education.
Panery legislator Kamali Basumatari also spoke on the occasion. The session was attended by a host of dignitaries of BSS,SDO(C) Bhergaon, Dithakananda Hazarika
among others.
