Angry nude protestors stormed the road leading to Parliament House displaying placards and shouting slogans against the Central Government’s move to table the citizenship bill in the Parliament.

According to sources, the protestors belonged to several indigenous organizations of Assam including Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) demanding scrapping of the controversial bill.

The security personnel were caught totally unaware even as several naked protestors tried to storm into the Parliament.

The protestors were, however, quickly roughed up by the police and taken away in a vehicle.

It may be recalled that on July 15 way back in 2004, an image from Manipur shocked the entire world where 12 middle-aged mothers stood naked in front of the Kangla Fort in Imphal with a banner that read ‘Indian Army Rape Us’.

The Assam Rifles was stationed at Kangla at that time.

The ‘naked protest’ was against the murder and alleged rape of Thangjam Manorama by the Assam Rifles.

According to the security forces, Manorama was a militant belonging to the banned People’s Liberation of Army (PLA).

Meanwhile, inside the Parliament, the chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), Rajendra Agarwal tabled the recommendation on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Immediately after the recommendation was tabled the Lower House witnessed an unruly scene with the Opposition creating a ruckus.

Amid the pandemonium, the House has been adjourned till 12:30 pm.

Black day in Assam: Back in Assam the situation is quite volatile across the State with protestors from several indigenous organizations taking to the streets to voice their protest against the citizenship bill.

Monday is being observed as a black day across the State. ASSU activists along with members from several other organizations were seen burning the copies of the JPC report on the streets.
