Lovlina Borgohain lost her semi-final bout against Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the welterweight women’s boxing at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday.

With this loss, Lovlina had to settle for a bronze medal. Lovlina lost to her Turkish opponent 0-5.

With a bronze medal, Lovlina became only the third Indian boxer after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom to win an Olympic medal.

23-year-old Lovlina Borgohain had already assured India of their first boxing medal at the ongoing Olympic Games when she upstaged former world champion – Nien-Chin Chen of Taiwan, to enter the semis.
