Amritpal Singh case: Assam police arrests Dibrugarh jail superintendent

DIBRUGARH: In a significant development, Assam police arrested Nipen Das, the superintendent of Dibrugarh central jail on Thursday (March 07) night.

The arrest was made in relation to objectionable materials discovered in the cell of Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De, and his nine associates lodged in the Dibrugarh central jail in Assam.

Dibrugarh additional SP Sizal Agarwal confirmed the arrest of Nipen Das.

Das was arrested under Section 13 (1) B of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 75 of the Assam Prisons Act.

The objectionable materials, including mobile phones and a spy camera, were seized from the possession of Amritpal Singh, who has been incarcerated in Dibrugarh Jail since February 17.

Assam police took action against Dibrugarh central jail superintendent Nipen Das based on a case registered in connection with the incident.

Notably, Amritpal Singh‘s nine associates, who were also implicated in the case, were booked under the National Security Act (NSA).

The individuals facing NSA charges include Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh, Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh, and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla.
