The court of additional sessions judge in Guwahati on Thursday granted bail to three Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leaders–Dhairya Konwar, Bedanta Laskar and Gopi Saikia—who were arrested by Dispur police on November 27 for allegedly obstructing government officials in discharging their duties during the eviction drive at Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary on the city outskirts.

The court on Wednesday granted interim bail to another KMSS leader Bhasko De Saikia in a case registered against him in connection with the Amchang eviction drive.

An FIR was filed by the divisional forest officer, Wildlife Guwahati, accusing Konwar, Laskar and Saikia of obstructing government officials in discharging their duties by inciting people to resist the drive.

The KMSS had strongly opposed the eviction drive carried out by Assam government.

Over 700 families have been rendered homeless following the eviction drive carried out by Assam government as per a Gauhati High Court order.
