Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) advisor Akhil Gogoi on Monday challenged the BJP led coalition government in the Assam to prevent the call for Assam bandh by more than 50 organizations on Tuesday if the government can.

Accusing BJP’s state president Ranjit Das of threatening all the organizations who supported the bandh, Gogoi said BJP’s ‘atrocities’ in the State has reminded him the Assam Movement era.

“This present government has been ruling like Hitler,” Gogoi said lashing out at the present State Government.

It may be mentioned that more than 50 organizations in Assam have unanimously called for a bandh demanding scrapping of the vexatious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 saying that it would jeopardize the identity of the greater Assamese community, its cultures and languages, if it is passed by the Parliament.

Gogoi said, “In 13 years in the history of KMSS, we have never called for bandh. This time, we had no option but to do so.”

“Nobody cares BJP’s threatening. We believe people of the State would cooperate with us to observe a peaceful and democratic bandh in protest against this capitalist government’s work,” said Gogoi.

Gogoi also reiterated that no force will be allowed to let Assam be a second Kashmir or Tripura.

The KMSS leader also demanded that the state BJP president Ranjit Das apologizes for his statement against the indigenous organizations.

“How dare Das term the indigenous organizations as ‘so called’?” Gogoi questioned.

Further, Gogoi appealed to all sections of people to restrain from work on October 23 and support the bandh to ‘protect the State’.
