The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal said that exclusion of 40.7 lakh people from the final NRC draft could be a conspiracy to bring down the number of voters in minority-dominated areas in Assam.

“A large number people missed their names in the final draft. It’s not a joke. We hope that the authorities concerned would hear all the claims and objections of the people minutely. No names of illegal migrants should figure in the NRC and no Indian should be left out from it. We will wait as it is only the draft,” Ajmal said while addressing a press conference here on Monday.

“We suspect conspiracy behind exclusion of 40, 07,707 people from the final draft of NRC. Give us some time, we will provide facts. Further we would like to assure the people, who missed their names in the final draft, of full assistance during claim and objection process,” said the AIUDF chief.

Ajmal , however, welcomed the publication of the final draft of NRC and thanked Supreme Court judges Ranjan Gogoi and Rohinton Fali Nariman.

Ajmal said, “We always favoured an illegal migrant free Assam. Publication of the final draft of NRC today is the first step towards an illegal migrant-free Assam. ”

Coming down heavily on the previous Congress government, Ajmal said, “The Congress Government in the State did not take the NRC issue seriously. The Congress was playing vote bank politics with the minority people of the State.”

“The BJP also did not take any positive step for the publication of NRC for the greater interest of the indigenous people of the State,” he alleged.
