A day after Koliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi’s appointment as the party in-charge of Tripura and Manipur, the Congress president modified its decision and asked Luizinho Falerio to continue as Tripura in-charge.

According to a fresh press statement by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Gaurav Gogoi has been appointed as the party in-charge of Manipur and Sikkim instead of Manipur and Tripura as stated in a press release issued on Monday.

In the fresh press release issued on Tuesday, K.C. Venugopal, AICC general secretary said: “In partial modification of the press release issued yesterday, the Hon’ble Congress President has appointed Shri Gourav Gogoi, M.P as in charge of Sikkim and Manipur along with his current responsibilities as in charge of West Bengal and ASA Islands.

“Shri Luizinho Faleiro will continue as General Secretary in charge of Tripura and the rest of the North Eastern States,” Venugopal said in the statement.

It may be mentioned that Pradyot Manikya Debbarman resigned recently as the state party chief of Tripura and also left the party due to differences with the party in-charge of Tripura, Luizinho Faleiro.

Pradyot Debbarman while firing a salvo at Falerio had alleged: “Some people sitting in BJP and tried to control the Congress in Tripura and general secretary Luizinho Faleiro is listing them and acting as they want.”

It seems the Congress high command might have got pressure from Luizinho Faleiro, who has served two terms as chief minister of Goa and has played an important role in forming alliances among parties in Northeast.

It became a prestige issue for Faleiro after Pradyot Debbarman’s complaint against him.
