Ahead of Assam Assembly polls, several singers, actors join Congress and BJP

Months before the Assembly polls in Assam, several Assamese singers and actors on Tuesday formally made their entry into active party politics.

While popular Assamese singers Babu Baruah, Ajoy Phukan and 27 other artistes joined the Congress, flutist Deepak Sarma, singer Simata Shekhar, actor Pranjana Dutta along with around a hundred artistes shook hands with the BJP.

Singers Babu and Ajoy along with other artistes were welcomed to the party fold by Assam PCC president Ripun Bora in a programme at Manabendra Sharma Complex in Guwahati.

On the other hand, Assam state BJP chief Ranjit Dass inducted the singers and actors including Deepak Sarma, singer Simata Shekhar, actor Pranjana Dutta at a function at party’s state headquarters in the city.

Dass said that the actors and singers have been inspired by the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the good work done by the BJP government to join the party.
