BJP leader killed in Tinsukia district ahead of Assam Assembly election

Ahead of Assembly polls, a 48-year-old local BJP leader was allegedly stabbed to death by his alleged political rivals at Bordumsa in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday evening.

 According to the report, Devananda Gogoi, president of the BJP’s Dumduma-Nagaon booth committee, was stabbed by a local youth while he was working in the backyard of his home.

Gogoi, who was critically injured in the attack, was rushed to the Bardumsa Government Hospital in nearby Arunachal Pradesh, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident has sparked tension in the entire Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency, to which the slain leader belonged.

It is not immediately clear whether it was a political murder or the result of personal animosity

Police said that it would be clear whether this was a political assassination only after investigation.

It is learnt that Bardumcha Police has already started an investigation into the incident.
