Advocate General of Arunachal Pradesh Nilayananda Dutta, popularly known as Nilay Dutta, passed away at 2.30 am on Sunday.
He died at Coorg in Karnataka due to a heart attack.

He was 71.
On Friday, Nilay Dutta celebrated his 46th marriage anniversary.
While sharing a picture on his Twitter handle informing about his marriage ceremony on Friday, Nilay Dutta wrote at 10:08 pm, “Remembering 52 years of love on the 46th marriage anniversary. Present Munmun and Brojendra Katakey and of course our princess, Abantee.”

According to reports, after complaining of chest pain and uneasiness, Advocate Dutta was taken to the hospital at 2.30 am where he was declared dead.
He is survived by his wife, daughter and son.
Senior advocate Dutta was a former president of the Assam Cricket Association.
Dutta, who hailed from Guwahati, was also an international cricket umpire.
Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, senior advocates and many others have expressed their condolences at the demise of Nilay Dutta.
“Deeply anguished by the sad news of passing away of Advocate General of Arunachal Shri Nilayananda Dutta Ji,” Khandu tweeted.
“In his passing away, we have lost a legendary legal luminary of the North East. My sincere condolences to his family and prayers for his soul to attain highest abode,” Khandu added.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his condolence message said with the demise of Dutta, Assam has lost one of the brightest lawyers.
“Assam has lost one of the brightest lawyers, Nilay Dutta, who also had significantly contributed in many other fields including sports administration. His demise has created a huge void difficult to be filled up.
Offer my deepest condolences to his family and well-wishers,” Sarma tweeted.

The Advocate General of Assam, Devajit Saikia, has also expressed his deep condolence at the demise of Dutta.
“Extremely shocking and sad news…one of the best legal luminary of present era, Advocate General of Arunachal Pradesh, Senior Advocate, Former President, Assam Cricket Association, and International Cricket Umpire Nilayananda Dutta, fondly “Nilayda” to us, has suddenly left us at around 2 AM today at Coorg, after celebrating his wedding anniversary last night…” Advocate General Devajit Saikia wrote on his Facebook post.
“… we have lost a leading light in the field of law & sports …my Salute to the Rockstar & Mentor from whom learnt the basics as well as finer nuances of practice in law… dramatic departure of a charismatic personality has put us in deep shock & in tears…May the noble soul rest in eternal peace…Goodbye Nilayda,” Saikia added.
According to reports, due to Covid protocol, Dutta’s body won’t be taken to his home city, Guwahati and would be cremated at Bengaluru.
