The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) came down heavily on the Assam Government and the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration for the discouraging results of Bodo medium schools in the recently declared HSLC results of Assam.
The students’ body blamed both the State Government and the BTC administration for lack of sufficient teachers in the provincialized Bodo medium school, lack of sufficient numbers of Science, Mathematics and English teachers, lack of proper supply of text books in time and non-provincialization of the Bodo medium High schools resulting in poor performance of the Bodo medium schools in comparison to others.
Briefing media persons at the ABSU central office ‘Bodofa House’, the union education secretary Kastom Basumatary said this year no student from Bodo medium schools could secure the top ten ranks in the HSLC examination result.
“Lack of sufficient teachers in the provincialized Bodo medium school, lack of sufficient numbers of Science, Mathematics and English teachers, lack of proper supply of text books in time and non-provincialization of the Bodo medium high schools are the main reason for the poor and declaiming results of the Bodo medium schools in comparison to the other medium,” he said.
Last year, a student of Bodo medium Bibhungsar Baumatary of UN Academy, Barpeta Road secured tenth position in the HSLC examination.
“The Bodo medium students and institutions are still neglected by the government. The school academic calendar has reached its mid-session, but our students still do not have sufficient books. Teachers who cannot read and write nor speak Bodo language were given appointment in Bodo medium schools,” he further said.
He also said the ABSU has been massively concentrating its activities on the field of education since 2006 through its mission ‘Year of Education’ and subsequently declared a mission ‘Quality Education’ from 2007-2020 with a view to uplift, encourage and aware the quality based education with the mother tongue language among the student community.
The ABSU has been conferring Kamal Kumar Derhasad Bantha Award since 2006 to the top ten HSLC passing students from the Bodo medium schools.
The union will organize the 13th Kamal Kumar Derhasad Bantha Award at Bodofa Cultural Complex in Kokrajhar on June 4 next.
