Assam police on Monday briefly detained AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi along with hundreds of protesters from Latasil ground in Guwahati.
Police detained Bhattacharya and Gogoi along with other AASU activists when they took out a protest march from Latsil ground to deputy commissioner (DC)’s office at Kachari against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

Police said the AASU protesters detained as the protest rally was taken out without prior permission from the district administration.
The detained protesters were kept at the bank of Dighalipukhuri before they were released.
The AASU and 28 other organisations, representing indigenous communities, launched a three-day satyagraha with a congregation at Latasil ground here against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

AASU leader Bhattacharya said they will carry out similar protests on Tuesday and Wednesday as well in Guwahati as well as other parts of the state.
He called upon the people from across the state to take part in the satyagraha.
