Whether the Guwahati Central Jail has turned into a hotbed for COVID19?
This question has been raised after a number of jail inmates, lodged in the central jail in Guwahati, tested positive for COVID19.
Whether the jail authority has kept the actual picture of COVID19 status inside the jail?
At a time when such talks are doing the round, an explosive letter by a jail inmate, who has tested positive for COVID19, has created sensation across the state.
Two pages of the letter by the prisoner of the Guwahati Central jail are now available with us.
This two-page letter by a COVID19 positive jail inmate was dropped from a vehicle used to carry prisoners in front of the main gate of the central jail.
In the letter, a prisoner, who introduced himself as Dudul Das, has portrayed a dangerous picture of the environment inside the jail.
In the letter, written in Assamese language, the jail inmate claimed: “95 per cent of the prisoners inside the jail have been affected by COVID19. All have not been tested. After detection of COVID19 positive, we were left without treatment and diet.”
“When asked, the jail authority said they know nothing. And today, when we set fire in our room, we are being sent to the medical (hospital),” jail inmate Das said in the letter.
He also wrote: “Both positive and negative prisoners are living together inside the jail. In a room inside the jail, 50 prisoners are allowed to sleep in a distance of just 2 ft.”
The prisoner in the end wrote in English: “PLEASE SAVE US, WE ARE ALSO HUMAN BEING NOT BLUDDY GHOST”
If the allegations levelled by the prisoner are true, the letter indicates a dangerous picture of COVID19 inside the Guwahati Central Jail.
