6th edition of Baokhungri Hills Trekking Competition begins in Kokrajhar on April 12

The 6th edition of the famous Baokhungri Hills Trekking Competition in Kokrajhar will get underway from April 12 on the occasion of Baokhungri Festival.

Official sources from the Head of the Department (CHD), Sports and Youth Welfare, BTC said forms have been issued in every District Sports Office of BTC and the offices of the respective District Sports Associations.

Sources said the hill trekking competition would be held for both male and female and the winner will get Rs 1 lakh while the 2nd and 3rd position holders will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively and seven persons up to ten positions would be given Rs 5,000 each as consolation prize.

Besides, there will be competitions on traditional Khomlainai, Gila, Dongfang Bukunai and Daobo Athing. In the individual competitions, the winners will receive Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,500 in cash respectively while the team events, the winning teams will receive Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.

Massive preparations are going on in full swing to make the festival a grand success. There would be ethnic food festival from various parts of the State and region including Bhutan.

Besides, there will be cultural extravaganza and paragliding to attract the visitors. Baokhungri Festival is the greatest annual festival in BTC region where lakhs of people from various parts of the region visit and hill trekking competition is participated from across the country.
