The 67th Yonex Sunrise All Assam Inter-District and Open Badminton Championship began at the Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) indoor stadium in Diphu on Monday.
Assam’s junior Health Minister Pijush Hazarika along with the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang inaugurated the championship.

The competition will conclude on September 7.
The tournament has been organised under the aegis of Assam Badminton Association (ABA) and hosted by Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA).
Inaugurating the tournament, Hazarika wished all the participating players from different districts of Assam to compete well to secure position.

“Games and sports are such a platform that can bring together people from different places irrespective of language, caste, community and religion. Games and sports can foster national unity and integrity. Play with good spirit and determination to win,” the minister said.
CEM Ronghang said, “This is for the first time that Karbi Anglong is hosting the Inter-District Badminton Championship and hope, the tournament will go well.”
“KASA is able to host different games and sports activities which are aimed at promoting sporting spirit among the youths of the district,” the CEM said.
“We hope, players coming from different district sports association will bear with the inconveniences if there is any, but we are trying our best to provide the best accommodation, food and venue,” Ronghang said.
The CEM also said Karbi Anglong is trying to host the national badminton championship here for promotion of games and sports.

The participating teams are host Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Guwahati, Darang, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Tinsukia, Tezpur, Naharkatia, Digboi, Kokrajhar, Ranggia, Kamrup, Silchar, Nowgong, Lakhimpur,
The events are Under 11 Boys Singles, under 13Boys Singles/Doubles, Under 15 Boys Singels/Doubles, Under 17 Boys Singles/ Doubles, Under 19 Boys Singles/Doubles and Men’s Singles/Doubles.
The events for girls and women are Under 11 Girls Singles, Under 13Girls Singles/Doubles, Under 15 Girls Singles/Doubles, Under 17 Girls Singles/ Doubles, Under 19 Girls Singles/Doubles and Women Singles/Doubles.
