Assam: AIUDF chief Ajmal dubs BJP MLA Siladitiya as ‘imported fish’

Dhubri MP and State president of the Jamiyat Ulema, Badruddin Ajmal on Sunday lambasted BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev over his recent remarks in which he (Shiladitya Dev) said that in 2026 Assembly election, Badruddin Ajmal would become the Chief Minister of Assam with support of minority votes.

Terming Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev as an imported fish, Ajmal, who is also the president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) said, “Shiladitya Dev always tries to create conflict between the Hindu and Muslim communities with a motive to shift Hindu votes towards the BJP in the upcoming general elections 2019.”

Ajmal also alleged that despite several requests made by his organisations, the Government of Assam has failed to arrest the Hojai MLA though he continues to make inflammatory statements against a particular community “only because he belongs to the ruling party”.

In reply to a question regarding the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s stand on the national Register of Citizens (NRC, Ajmal said that he has a good relationship with Mamata but despite that he cannot support her in the NRC issue as the entire process of updating NRC has been going on in a peaceful manner and under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

Ajmal said this while attending an awareness meeting organised by the Jamiat Ulema at Jhagrapar on outskirts of Dhubri town.

Apart him, three MLAs of the AIUDF including Najrul Hoque of Dhubri, Mizanur Rahman of Gauripur and Hafiz Basir Ahmed Kasmi of Bilasipara West respectively of Dhubri district along with other Jamiat leaders were present at the meeting.
