Eight more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Assam on Thursday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 53, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Minister Sarma in a tweet said that the four people were travelling on the same bus from Ajmer in Rajasthan, in which the coronavirus positive man from Cachar district travelled.

“Alert ~ 4 persons, who took the same bus from Rajasthan in which the Cachar dist #COVID19 + person travelled, have tested positive too. Total #COVID19 patients in Assam now stands at 49,” Sarma tweeted.

The primary contact, Faridul Islam, stranded in Ajmer, Rajasthan, returned to Assam on Wednesday.

Islam along with 41 co-passengers in the bus were medically screened.

In another tweet at 10.10 pm on Thursday, Sarma said that four persons from Guwahati also tested positive for the virus.

“Alert ~ 4 persons in Guwahati test #COVID19 + One of them have come from outside Assam, and is in hone quarantine,while 3 are from Guwahati.

#COVID19 patients in Assam now stands at 53,” Sarma tweeted.

According to reports, the four patients from Guwahati, who have tested positive for COVID19, include a doctor at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), a lady from Chandmari area, one is from the B Borooah Cancer Institute Colony at Birubari and the other who is in Sarusajai Quarantine Centre.

Meanwhile, a lady doctor from Guwahati has tested positive for COVID19 in Dubai.
