3 brothers, sister-in-law arrested for killing youth of same family in Kokrajhar

In an incident of gruesome murder, eight members of a family allegedly killed one of their own family members and the body was buried in the tank of their toilet at Uttar Mainaguri village under Fakiragram Police Station in Kokrajhar district on Sunday last.

This came to light only on Friday. In this connection, four members of the family of Romoni Sutradhar have been arrested by police.

On Sunday last at about 9 pm to 9.45 pm there a quarrel took place among the members of a family in their home in Uttar Mainaguri village which led to the killing of Uttam Sutradhar, one of the family members, who was unmarried.

According to the arrested family members, Uttam Sutradhar, who was abnormal, did not work but always quarrelled with others at home.

He was the 6th son among seven sons and one daughter of Romoni Sutradhar.

Biroja Sutradhar is the mother, while the brothers of the deceased are Ananta Sutradhar, Durga Charan Sutradhar, Sibu Sutradhar, Gautam Sutradhar, Krishna Sutradhar and Bishnu Sutadhar. Mamoni Sutradhar is his sister, who is married and lives at Bijni.

Talking to reporters, Pankaj Kr Roy, Officer-in-Charge of Fakiragram Police said, “We received information that one youth, Uttam Sutradhar, aged 27 years, was murdered by his own family members as a result of family quarrel and immediately we investigated the case and finally recovered the body.”

The police have arrested four members of the family and the other family members involved in the murder are still absconding.

The family members who have been arrested by the police are Ananta Sutradhar, Bishnu Sutradhar, Gautam Sutradhar and his wife Madhavi Sutradhar.

“Investigation is going on and culprits will be punished as per law,” said Roy.

The police official also said the body was recovered on Friday in presence of the District Magistrate, police officials and villagers and four members of the family were arrested in connection with the murder of Uttam Sutradhar.

Roy also informed that the arrested persons have confessed to the crime.

The other members of the family including the deceased father Ramani Sutradhar, mother Biroja Sutradhar, brothers Sutradhar and Krishna Sutradhar are absconding.

The villagers of Uttar Mainaguri also claimed that Uttam Sutradhar was murdered by their own family members and they engaged in quarrels frequently and last Sunday also, sounds of quarrel were heard.

The villagers have demanded punishment to the killers of Uttam.
