Golaghat police has arrested three hackers for fraudulently withdrawing over Rs 13 lakh from the State Bank of India (SBI).
“Acting on specific information, three hackers identified as Shahid Ahmed Laskar, Nurul Ahmed Barbhuiya and Motibul Rahman, who fraudulently withdrawn cash from an SBI account, were arrested from Guwahat and Hojai on Saturday,” Golaghat DSP Madhurjya Baruah said.
On May 29 this year, the three hackers had fraudulently withdrawn an amount of Rs 13 lakh from the bank account of a college principal in Golaghat district, he said.
DSP Baruah said based on a complaint lodged by the principal, police launched an operation and arrested them on Saturday.
Police seized one four-wheeler, seven mobile phones, 52 bank passbooks, 57 debit cards, five fake SIM cards, one laptop and several incriminating documents from their possession.
“Prima facie we suspect that there could be some more people involved in the racket supported by some money launders operating from outside the state,” said the police official.
The police have received information that some bank employees are also involved in the fraudulent withdrawal of cash.
