A young homeopathic doctor was murdered on Saturday in Upper Assam’s Jorhat town.
Police officials informed Northeast Now that a 26-year-old homeopathic doctor was found murdered in his rented house in Bylane 4 of Chandan Nagar in Jorhat.
The young doctor has been identified as Rahul Basumatary, an intern doctor at J K Memorial Homeopathic Medical College of Jorhat.
Rahul Basumatary is from Udalguri district of Assam, and had completed his Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery degree in 2019 from JK Memorial Homeopathic Medical College in Jorhat.
Jorhat Police have already started investigation into the case of murder of the young homeopathic doctor.
From prima facie investigation, it is evident that the homeopathic doctor was murdered with a knife, and his throat had a deep slit.
The young doctor was found lying in a pool of blood on the floor of his rented house in Bylane 4 of Chandan Nagar in Jorhat.
The house owner, a retired joint secretary of Government of Assam, Hira Prasad Nath, was surprised to see the motorcycle missing from the campus on Saturday morning.
Nath gave a call to Rahul Basumatary, but did not get any response. The landlord climbed up the steps to Rahul Basumatary’s flat and found the door open.
When Nath entered the room, he found the young homeopathic doctor lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
Nath immediately called the Jorhat Police regarding the incident.
Police rushed to the spot. A vegetable-cutting knife was recovered from the murder spot, police officials said.
The assailants also decamped with Rahul Basumatary’s motorcycle. Police have alerted all police stations in Jorhat and the nearby districts to intercept anyone found riding the motorcycle.
The motorcycle has been said to be a Royal Enfield Thunderbird, bearing registration number AS-03-Y-8281.
Students of JK Memorial Homeopathic Medical College in Jorhat were shocked by the sensational murder of Rahul Basumatary.
The students said Rahul Basumatary was very popular in the campus and always had a smiling face.
