Assam has registered 2,579 new COVID19 positive cases on Tuesday, taking the state’s overall tally to 1,30,823 while 2,166 other patients were discharged from hospitals or Covid care centres across the state.

Confirming the detection of the new cases on Tuesday, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said the new cases were detected out of 34,462 tests.

“Alert ~ 2579 #COVID cases detected today out of 34462 tests done in last 24 hours,” health minister Sarma tweeted.

Currently, the state’s positivity rate stands at 7.48%.

Out of the new cases, Kamrup Metro has reported 729 cases, Dibrugarh 160, Jorhat 146 and Dhemaji has reported 110 new cases.

Meanwhile, 8 more positive patients died of COVID19 infection in Assam on Tuesday, taking the state’s death toll to 378.

In another on Tuesday, health minister Sarma informed that 2,166 COVID19 patients were discharged in the state after their recovery from the disease.

With the recovery of 2,166 more patients, Assam has crossed the 1 lakh mark of recovered patients.

“Discharge Alert. 2166 discharge today, we have crossed 1 Lakh recovered patients,” said Sarma.

“We bow down to efforts of medical team,” Sarma tweeted, adding, “With this spirit, we shall win over #COVID19.”

Assam currently has 29,203 active patients.
