A 21-day-old baby, who was born to a Covid-19 positive mother, succumbed to the infection at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh on Sunday.
The infant hailing from the Chabua area was born with the infection recently and was admitted to AMH after the mother of the baby had also contracted the deadly disease.
“Our doctors tried their best to save the newborn. As per our knowledge, she was one of the youngest victims of Covid-19 in the district,” said an AMCH doctor.
The Dibrugarh district has witnessed a spike in Covid-cases.
Over 2,000 children in the 0-18 age group have tested positive for COVID-19 in Dibrugarh district since April 1, said a health official.
Currently, a total of 18 Covid-positive children are undergoing treatment at AMCH in Dibrugarh, he said.
