With the foundation stones being laid for construction of houses in Kokrajhar town under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-Urban)/Housing For All (Urban) Mission, a total of 1561 beneficiaries will get their own houses in the town soon.
The foundation stone for the construction of houses was ceremonially laid by Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Executive Member Rajib Kumar Brahma at Santinagar in Kokrajhar, the headquarter town of the BTC.
On the other hand, BTC Executive Member Doneswar Goyary laid foundation stone at Hatimata in Kokrajhar town.
The Chairman of the Kokrajhar Municipal Board Bishnu Narzary and Council Head of the Department (CHD), Urban Development, BTC, B Swargoyary were also present in the programme.
While speaking at the foundation laying ceremony, Kokrajhar Municipal Board Chairman Narzary said, “A total of 217 beneficiaries have been selected for the first phase of construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in the Kokrajhar town.”
He also said, “A total of 1561 beneficiaries will get their own houses in Kokrajhar town under the scheme.”
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban)/Housing For All (Urban) Mission was launched in June, 2015 by the Central Government with an aim to provide affordable houses for urban poor.
The objective of the scheme is to provide houses to all the economically poor section and low-income group of people who live in the urban areas by 2022.
As per the recommendations of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, for the housing sector, the concessional rate of GST of 12 per cent (effective rate of 8 per cent after deducting one-third of the amount charged for the house towards the cost of land) will from January 25, 2018 be applicable for houses constructed or acquired under the Housing for All (Urban) Mission/Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
