The Bharalumukh Police on Tuesday arrested a 42-year-old man for being allegedly involved in spreading hate messages on WhatsApp in Guwahati.

The arrested person, identified as Babu Mandal, hails from Bishnupur area under Bharalumukh Police Station in the city.

During a telephonic conversation with Northeast Now, assistant commissioner of police, Jalukbari, Ponjit Dowarah said, “One Babu Mandal has been arrested from Bishnupur area in Guwahati for circulating hate messages against one particular community of the State.”

A case has been registered against the accused under Section 153(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 66 (F) of the IT Act.

As per reports, the Karbi Anglong Police arrested five persons in the last 24 hours for being allegedly involved in either recording the gruesome video of the brutal murder of two Guwahati youths – Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath – at Panjuri village under Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong on June 8, 2018 or for circulating the video on social media platforms.

The Assam Police on its Twitter handle on Tuesday stated that a total of 22 people have been arrested for circulating hate messages on the social media keeping in view the prevailing situation of the State after the mob lynching incident in Karbi Anglong.

On Monday, the Barpeta Police arrested one 24-year-old Bulbul Hussain, who hails from Betabari Pothar in Barpeta district for spreading hate message on his fake Facebook account.

The accused uploaded the objectionable post on his fake Facebook account created in the name of RDX Rinku.
