Police in Tinsukia district launched a crackdown against objectionable posts in social media and arrested a youth identified as Mintu Dehingia (28) on Wednesday afternoon from Makum. He was circulating provocative posts in social media against a particular community.

‘The arrested youth who has been identified as Mintu Dehingia (28) son of Debeswar Dehingia of Loharipatti area at Makum in Tinsukia District was circulating provocative posts in social media against a particular community for the mob lynching incident,’ Tinsukia SP Mugdhajyoti Mahanta told Northeast Now.

Mahanta said that the accused was found circulating some sensitive and biased posts from his Facebook account which might fuel social disharmony.

‘I have been personally keeping a strong vigil on various social networking sites with all my resources and coordinating with the cyber cells and IT experts in this regard,’ Mahanta said.

Based on a case lodged at Makum Police Station at 119/18 u/s 153/153A/153B/ 294/ 505/34 IPC R/W Sec 67 of IT Act, the accused was prosecuted.
