Assam Women's University academic registrar LK Hazarika being felicitated in Jorhat on Saturday.

Assam Women’s University academic registrar LK Hazarika has been selected to the Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society (FRES), London.

This follows close on the heels of Somnath Roy, scientist, Tocklai Tea Research Institute here being elected to the Royal Entomological Society, London this year and senior scientist of North East Institute of Science and Technology here Mantu Bhuyan, who had also achieved this distinction in 2018.

Apart from the FRES, Hazarika has been selected for two more awards that of Applied Zoologists Research Association (AZRA), Bhubaneswar Honourary Fellowship Award, 2019; and Dr BV David Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 for his outstanding contribution to agriculture and allied science.

The Assam Women’s University on Saturday felicitated him on his achievements.

The FRES is one of the most prestigious fellowships awarded by the Royal Entomological Society, UK to outstanding scholars in the field of entomology in recognition to one’s contributions towards advancement of entomology by way of teaching, research and innovation and extension.

Many pioneering scientists like Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace, fathers of theory of evolution, were also given this award.

The AZRA Fellowship is also one of the topmost awards given to a scientist by the association located at Bhubaneswr in Odisha.

Hazarika said this would be awarded to him during an international conference organized by AZRA in collaboration with University of Agricultural Sciences at Raichur, Karnataka on February 12-14, 2020.

The David Foundation award would be given on November 17, 2019 at Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Assam Women’s University vice chancellor Malinee Goswami graced the meeting organized by the teachers of the University to felicitate Hazarika.
