The villagers said the elephants have destroyed sugarcane crop and houses.

The elephants last night attacked the house of Bipul Das and opened his silo paddy.

The elephants apart from eating his paddy have also damaged his bi-cycle.

Das’s furniture, household items and utensils were also damaged.

However, no harm to human life took place in the incident.

But the presence of wild elephants in the vicinity of the village has unleashed a reign of terror in the area.

The depleting forest cover has forced the elephants to come out in the open in search of food.

In the last one decade the wild elephants have been seen even reaching Hojai town where they have raided a rice godown.

However, this has failed to wake up the authorities on the worsening situation of the environment.

Particularly in West Karbi Anglong, lives have been lost in man-elephant conflict with people encroaching on the habitat of wild animals.
