The incessant downpour and massive landslides in parts of West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh in recent times has considerably taken its toll on the normal lives of the people in Udalguri district of Assam, causing loss to property and commerce.
A recent letter by the West Kameng district administration to Udalguri district administration has literally sent shockwaves across the district.
The letter has prompted the administration to apprise the emergency service and disaster management authorities to take immediate and swift action in hour of crisis.
Reportedly, as per the letter due to the incessant downpour in Yolongripam area in West Kameng district, the flow of Nargum river is choked as a result of accumulation of earth materials causing stagnancy of the river.
The conditions may give rise to a flood like situation which has the potential of causing substantial loss and damage to human life and livestock in downstream area which includes parts of Udalguri.
The letter further asked the administration to appeal the public not to indulge in fishing, sand mining in the river across the parts of Bhairabkunda in Udalguri along the tri-junctional landscape of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh-Bhutan.
