Assam weightlifters Bornali Borah and Rekhamoni Gogoi brought laurels to the state by bagging gold and silver medal respectively at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Apia, the capital city of Samoa on Tuesday.
While Borah bagged gold medal in the 45 kg junior category, Gogoi secured the silver medal in the 40 kg youth category.
Assam chief minister Sonowal has congratulated the two talented weightlifters on his official Twitter handle.
Chief minister Snowal tweeted, “Congratulations to Bornali Borah and Rekhamoni Gogoi for winning gold medal & silver medal in Junior 45 Kg and 40 Kg categories respectively at the Commonwealth #Weightlifting Championships in Samoa. A great start. My best wishes to the team for the campaign.”

The 2019 Commonwealth Senior, Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships is being held from July 5 to July 15 at Apia in Samoa.
The winners of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships will be able to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as the international competition is a qualification event for the upcoming Olympics.
The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships is held separately for men and women.
This year, a total of nine men and eight women of India participated in the junior category of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships.
For the senior category of the international weightlifting competition, nine men and nine women of the country participated.
A total of five men and three women of the country participated in the youth category of Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships.
