Guwahati: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan convened a meeting with senior Assam government officials and police to assess the law and order situation in the state at the State Guest House in Guwahati’s Koinadhora on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Mohan conducted an in-depth review of the implementation status of various peace agreements in the state and assessed the successes of the Assam Police in counter-insurgency operations as well as peace and community policing efforts.

Notably, 15 clauses of the Karbi Accord and six clauses each of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Accord and Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) Accord have already been implemented, with the remaining clauses being actively worked on by all parties concerned.
The surrendered militants from various groups have been rehabilitated in accordance with the policies of the Central and state governments and are being empowered to build sustainable livelihoods as they reintegrate into mainstream society.

The meeting covered several key issues.
Improved Law and Order:
The Assam Police presented updates on the success of the state government’s drives against drugs, child marriage, radicalisation, rhino poaching and corruption.
Flood and Wetland Management:
There was a detailed discussion on the wetlands identified by the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) for flood diversion, along with a review of Phase 1 wetland projects and upcoming projects valued at Rs 500 crore.
Engagement with Autonomous Councils:
The Union Home Secretary, Assam minister Ranoj Pegu and Chief Secretary Ravi Kota also met with the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) and the CEMs of the Tiwa, Mising and Rabha Hasong Autonomous Councils to discuss the status of Central support for fulfilling regional aspirations.
