Assam: Undertrial escapes from police custody in Jorhat

An undertrial prisoner lodged in the Central Jail Jorhat fled from the District and Sessions Court premises while he was brought to the court by policemen to appear in the hearing of the case against him.

The undertrial Rajen Dutta hails from Kowaimari area under Teok Police Station in Jorhat district.

A police source said that Dutta, an undertrial jail inmate, was booked under Sections 398 (A) and 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), who was taken out from the jail for appearance in connection with the trial going on in the court, reportedly fled from the court campus.

The source further said that police were carrying out investigation in the incident and an FIR would be lodged by police regarding the case as the prisoners were brought to the court and returned back to the jail under police custody.
