Arrested ULFA-I over-ground worker Pradeep Konwar. Northeast Now

An over-ground worker of the United Liberation Front of Asom-United (ULFA-I), identified as Pradeep Konwar, was apprehended by the 9th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles from Lahowal in Dibrugarh district on Tuesday.

According to information, a 3.2 mm pistol and one magazine with three live rounds of bullet were also recovered from his possession. Konwar is a resident of Ghaspura village under Moran Police Station.

“During interrogation, he admitted to working for the militant outfit by providing logistics support and indulging in extortion activities on behalf of the outfit. He was even sentenced to jail on as many as four occasions in the past for various offences,” said an Army official.

After preliminary investigation and medical check-up, the apprehended over-ground worker, Konwar was handed over to Lahowal Police Station where an FIR has been lodged.

It may be mentioned that the Jagun Police in Tinsukia district arrested a suspected militant of the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) linkman from Jagun’s No 2 Faneng during a joint operation with 13th Battalion of Assam Rifles on June 10, 2018.

The 38-year-old suspected ULFA-I linkman was identified as Babu alias Hemkanta Basumatary.

According to police officials, the Babu helped one Karishma Mech of Faneng to join the ULFA-I in April, 2018.

On the other hand, during an operation, the Army on May 22, 2018 nabbed a hardcore cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) along with a pistol and a magazine from Chabua in Dibrugarh district.

The ULFA-I cadre was identified as self-styled ‘SS lance corporal’ Ganesh Gogoi.
