In a bid to take forward the movement of women’s rights, the Tangla unit of Ganatantrik Mahila Samiti observed the International Women’s Day at Tangla town in Udalguri district of Assam on Friday.

Addressing the open session as appointed speaker, head of the department of Bengali inTangla College, Shampa Chakravorty said, “We have to save daughters, and educate the daughters to keep women in par with men.”

She further reiterated the role of women in building the society and stated the society at large have to broaden its horizon to give space to the women to pursue their goals and chase their ambitions.

The session presided over by senior advocate, Malay Kumar Lahiri was attended as chief guest by BTC executive member, Jagadish Sarkar which was inaugurated by Bhergaon SDPO, Nirmal Ghosh.

Other distinguished guest included former head of English department,Tangla College, Rabindra Kumar Sarmah; and ward commissioner of Tangla Municipal Board, Dipali Chakladar.

Earlier a cultural rally was also taken out throughout Tangla town.
