Guwahati: On May 30, Tinsukia Police apprehended two youths in the Pengeri area due to their suspected connections with the banned organization United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), according to officials.
The individuals have been identified as Dulav Moran and Rongat Moran, both of whom reside in Nalani village within Tinsukia district.
As per police sources, the pair was allegedly functioning as intermediaries for the insurgent group and were believed to be facilitating communication between the organization and its local affiliates. Investigators also suspect that they were planning to join the group.
The arrests occurred during a specialized operation conducted by Tinsukia Police, which was based on intelligence reports. The two are presently undergoing interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police officials indicated that these recent arrests are part of a larger initiative to dismantle the support network of the organization within the district. In the past week, a total of 12 suspected intermediaries have been detained from various locations in Assam and other states in relation to alleged connections with ULFA (I).
Officials asserted that the continuous operations have significantly disrupted a major network of the banned organization that was operational in the district.
Further investigations are in progress to ascertain the full extent of the network and to identify additional individuals who may be connected to the organization.
