Two persons were killed in a group clash that took place at around 10 pm on Wednesday night at AMC Road of Paltan Bazaar in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh.

According to sources, a road accident took place between a bike and a Maruti Swift Dzire bearing registration number AR-20-4847.

Some persons stopped the car from fleeing from the spot.

At that moment, the occupants in the car came out and attacked those who stopped their vehicle with sharp weapons.

Five persons who are all employees of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) were seriously injured.

They were rushed to the AMCH where one of them, Dipak Mech was declared brought dead.

Another one identified as one Ratul Bora later died in AMCH late Wednesday night.

The three others who had sustained serious injuries are Pranjit Bhuyan, Rupam Nath and Manoj Dutta.

They are undergoing treatment at AMCH. The angry public also damaged the Swift car.

Later, police towed the car to their custody.

According to police, after the death of two persons, the angry public started searching the culprits in many nearby lodges, hotels etc.

Some of miscreants took the advantage and snatched away cash and ATM cards from the occupants of the car who were believed to be from Arunachal Pradesh.

After the incident, the agitated mob vandalized some of the Arunachal lodges in Dibrugarh.

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha visited AMCH after the incident and took stock of the situation.

Police later arrested the main culprits Gunin Chetia of Laipuli, Tinsukia and another Sonu Ahmed of Dibrugarh.

Additional superintendent of police, Dhuruba Bora said that a confrontation took place at Paltan Bazaar area of Dibrugarh between the occupants of a Maruti Suzuki Desire and local youth of the area.

Suddenly, the man sitting in the car attacked the local youth with sharp weapon injuring five of them.

“After the incident the agitated mob damaged the vehicle. Two hours later we have arrested the main accused and another co-accused from Dibrujan area of Dibrugarh,” said Bora.

The Dibrugarh district administration has appealed people to maintain peace and law & order.

On Thursday, Dibrugarh bandh was called by the locals that had witnessed total impact as the shops near AMCH were totally closed.

Even the medicine shops remained closed.
